This past weekend Estée Lauder held their quarterly warehouse sale which includes MAC, Clinique, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown, Ojon, Bumble & Bumble and too many fragrance brands to mention. It’s a 3 day invite only event. I attended the sale on Friday with my sister in law and here’s how it went and what I got.
I knew it would be busy but I thought since it was a weekday and it was raining that it might not be too bad. I was wrong. Upon arrival at 10:15 am (sale started at 10 am) there was a lineup and it took about 30 minutes to get inside. Once inside there were women (and a handful of men) everywhere. There were 3 rooms with tables of product. For about half the products you help yourself but any makeup or smaller items are taped down on a sample table and you lineup to request the products. Any of the pricier Estée Lauder skincare was sectioned off with its own security guard and separate lineup. I wasn’t prepared to wait in the lineup as it was a few hours long.
In terms of product selection, there were discontinued items, holiday gift sets, sample sizes and some regular line items. I found the prices good compared to regular retail prices but I did hear some people comment that the prices have gone up at each sale. I went in with a budget and a plan of what items I wanted. I was basically looking to pick up some MAC makeup as I have none. Here’s what I got.
MAC Morning, Noon & Knight Everything Eye Brushes $17.50
This set was actually $35 but you got a second set free so my sister in law & I split the cost and each got one. It contains 5 Special Edition brushes (194, 204, 224, 266, 275) and a small cosmetic bag. This set was released back in 2009.
MAC Face Kit by Rebecca Moses in Plum $35
This palette is made up of a blush, 4 eye shadows, 2 lipsticks and a double ended brush (275 and 316). The first 2 swatches are the lipsticks – Syrup at the top and Blankety below. Next swatch is the blush in Mocha. Eye shadows from left to right and top to bottom – Yogurt, Plum Reduction, Romance Me and Heather Belles. This palette was released in the Fall of 2013.
MAC Eye Shadow Quad in Pink Freeze $25
This quad includes Pink Freeze, Bruised Plum, Deception and Magic Moor (from left to right and top to bottom). This item is currently available on MAC’s website.
MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Superb $1.67
This is my favorite item out of everything. First let me explain the price. After you’ve shopped and paid, you can make a donation of $5 towards Breast Cancer Research (an employee advised that 100% of the proceeds are donated) and in turn you receive a Charity Bag which contains a surprise. My bag had 3 MAC products and so $5 divided by 3 is $1.67. My sister in law gave me some of her items and I valued those the same way.
I’m really looking forward to using this as a highlighter this summer. The swatch on the left is full on while on the right it has been blended in. This item is currently available on MAC’s website but in a different shade.
MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Cosmo $10
There weren’t many lipsticks to choose from but I thought this would be a safe shade for me. It has a soft vanilla scent that I actually like.
MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Fresh & Frisky $1.67
This item came in the Charity Bag so the shade was a surprise but it might work in the summer. It has the same scent as the creme lipstick.
The lipstick is currently available on MAC’s website and so is the lipcolour but in a different shade.
MAC Cremesheen Glass Lip Gloss in Private Screening $10
There also weren’t many lip glosses to choose from but again I fond something that will work for me. All of the glosses have the same scent as the lipsticks.
MAC Cremesheen Glass Lip Gloss in Flair for Finery & MAC Lipglass in Oh My Darling $1.67 each
Again these were surprise shades but I think they’re great. They are neutral shades that I probably would have chosen anyway.
Only the shade Oh My Darling is currently available on MAC’s website.
MAC Nail Lacquer in Gadabout Girl $1.67
Another Charity Bag item. This shade is a super dark plum – it’s definitely a vampy shade
and it seems it was released for the 2013 holiday season but I found references to it back from 2012.
Clinique Cosmetic Bag $4
I was in need of a new travel cosmetic bag so I couldn’t pass this up.
There were lots of bags in different sizes and brands but I needed a large zip top bag
Clinique Tin $1
The tin was just too cute and for the price I thought…why not?
Random Pink Chair $4
I blame my sister in law for the chair. She saw it and told me I had to get it.
It does match my decor so I’ll figure out what to do with it.
As a thank you, everyone receives a mini Estée Lauder cosmetic bag and a sample of Clinique Happy.
The bag will come in handy for everyday use and the fragrance is a floral scent with a hint of citrus.
My grand total with tax was $127.85. Retail value of just the MAC items is $323.18 with tax. It was an exhausting but fun day. If you ever have the opportunity to attend the sale, I definitely recommend checking it out. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes!
