I have a pair of classic short Ugg boots that I bought over 10 years ago. I wore them all the time even in the snow. I’d clean them as best I could with a damp cloth but the salt & water really did a number on them. I stopped wearing them years ago but couldn’t bring myself to let go of them so they’ve been hiding at the back of the coat closet for a few years.
I’ve always thought about getting them cleaned, lots of dry cleaners advertise Ugg boot cleaning, but never bothered. When I got a pair of the classic tall boots this past Christmas, I was reminded of how comfortable & warm the boots are. So finally I decided I’d try to clean my old pair.
I did some research on how I should clean them & watched a YouTube video on washing them by hand or in a front loading washing machine. I was a bit skeptical but what did I have to lose? I wasn’t wearing them anyway. So I popped them in the washer & I’m impressed at how much better they look. Now, they aren’t back to their original state but I can wear them now.
What I did…
- You must use a front loading washer – a top loading washer with an agitator will damage the boots
- Wash on a gentle cycle, with warm water & a small amount of detergent used on delicates -about 2 tablespoons
- Once the boots have been washed, stuff with paper towel or cloths to help the boots keep their shape as they dry
- Once the boots are dry, brush them with a soft brush
Here are some before & after pictures. If you give it a try let me know how it goes 🙂
